Collateral Good Invests in Brightplus to Scale Sustainable Textile Coatings

Zurich, July 15th, 2025 – We are proud to announce our latest investment into Brightplus, a Finnish deep tech innovator transforming the future of textiles through recyclable, bio-based coatings. The EUR 2 million funding round — led by Collateral Good with co-lead participation from Butterfly Ventures and support from new and existing investors— marks a key milestone in scaling one of the most promising material science solutions for sustainable fashion.

Why We Invested

At Collateral Good, we invest in solutions with the potential to reshape entire industries — and Brightplus does just that. Leveraging its proprietary BrightBio® platform, the company has developed PFAS-free, waterless, and fully recyclable textile coatings that deliver high performance without environmental compromise.

Brightplus’s products are not only regulation-ready but also cost-competitive, thanks to their ability to source raw materials from agricultural waste streams and CO₂-derived inputs. This radically local, circular approach lowers emissions, enables traceability, and reduces reliance on virgin resources — aligning perfectly with our mission to support climate-positive innovation across fashion and textiles.

“Brightplus stands out with a commercially viable, PFAS-free, bio-based coating technology that meets real market demand. By sourcing raw materials from agricultural waste streams, they not only address a critical sustainability gap but do so with strong economics.”
Mariana Gonzalez, Principal at Collateral Good

Scaling a Sustainable Vision

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Oulu, Finland, Brightplus is now set to transition from pilot phase to full industrial production of its BrightBio® coatings. The funding will help the company accelerate this scale-up while strengthening its partnerships with global textile brands and expanding into new applications.

By developing drop-in compatible granules for standard coating lines, Brightplus ensures minimal capital investment and ease of adoption for industry partners. Combined with digital tools for recipe control and local sourcing flexibility, this enables a fast, cost-efficient scale-up — without sacrificing quality or sustainability.

“We have proven the effectiveness of our technology in pilot projects with leading brands, and we are now ready to scale this sustainable vision into practice.”
Milja Hannu-Kuure, CEO of Brightplus

A Future Without Compromise

Brightplus’s coatings meet the highest standards in safety and performance — including Oeko-Tex Class 1 certification, confirming they are safe even for the most sensitive skin. With global regulations increasingly phasing out harmful chemicals like PFAS and pushing for circularity in textiles, Brightplus is uniquely positioned as the next-generation solution for brands navigating this shift.

“BrightBio® was designed as a fully waterless solution. It sets a new standard for ethical, regulation-ready coated textiles — without the burden of a green premium.”
Jarkko Leivo, CTO and Co-Founder of Brightplus
