The Story So Far
Chromologics is a Danish biotech company improving the food colorant industry with sustainable, natural solutions. Chromologics’ mission is to build a new foundation for best-in-class color solutions by leveraging precision fermentation. The aim is to deliver products with superior stability, dependable sourcing, and exceptional performance. Chromologics’ vision is to become a global leader in fermentation-based, high-performance food colorants, setting a new standard for the industry. The company’s proprietary fermentation technology produces stable, high-performance pigments without the need for arable land, making it far more sustainable than other natural colorants.
This scalable approach ensures consistent quality, reliable supply, and competitive pricing, addressing key challenges faced by food and beverage manufacturers. The first product, Natu.Red, is currently undergoing a regulatory program. The company was co-founded by Gerit Tolborg (CEO) and Anders Ødum (CTO), who met at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) where they were both pursuing academic careers. Gerit’s PhD research led to the discovery of a novel group of fungal pigments, inspiring her and Anders to commercialize this breakthrough and found Chromologics, being the first movers in introducing lab-grown food colorants to the market.
