Dutch Food-Tech company, growing real beef from animal cells

The Idea in Action

Mosa Meat is transforming the global food system by pioneering cultivated beef, a cleaner and more sustainable alternative to conventional meat production. By growing beef directly from animal cells, Mosa Meat eliminates the need for livestock farming, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, land use, and water consumption. The company addresses pressing challenges in the meat industry, such as animal welfare and food security while offering consumers the same delicious taste of real beef.

Through innovation and a commitment to sustainability, Mosa Meat aims to deliver a solution that is better for people, animals, and the planet—creating a new standard for meat production.

The Story So Far

Founded in 2016 in Maastricht, Netherlands, Mosa Meat introduced the world’s first cultivated beef hamburger in 2013, led by co-founders Dr. Mark Post, a pioneer in cultured meat research, and Peter Verstrate, an expert in food technology. The company has since expanded to become a leader in the cultivated meat space, with a diverse team of scientists and innovators dedicated to reshaping the global food industry. By leveraging advanced cell culture techniques, Mosa Meat is scaling production to bring

cultivated beef to market, focusing initially on high-impact products like beef, which has the largest environmental footprint. Their state-of-the-art facilities are designed for efficiency and sustainability, setting the stage for the widespread adoption of cultivated meat globally. And if that was not enough, Mosa Meat is supported by world-class advisors and investors, including actor, producer, and activist Leonardo DiCaprio.
