The global demand for meat continues to rise, yet the current scale of animal agriculture is unsustainable. Planted is redefining the future of protein by creating plant-based meats that deliver on taste, texture, nutritional values and juiciness—without the environmental and ethical drawbacks. By combining proprietary structuring and fermentation technologies, Planted crafts clean-label, additive-free proteins that set a new standard in the category, proving that sustainable choices can also be delicious, sustainable and nutritious.

The Story So Far

Founded in 2019 as a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), Planted is a certified B Corporation pioneering a new era of plant-based protein. With its industry leading production facility in Kemptthal, Switzerland, Planted is committed to innovation, sustainability, and public engagement.

Its range of plant-based meats—made from proteins like peas, soja, and sunflowers—includes planted.chicken, planted.pulled, planted.kebab, planted.duck, planted.schnitzel, as well its latest innovation the planted.steak. Today, Planted products are already available in over 7’500 restaurants and 10’000 retail outlets across Europe, driving the shift towards a more sustainable food system.

Christoph Jenny is one of four founders of Planted and a member of the Executive Board - driven by the desire to create better meat than animals. Christoph has a masters degree in Finance and started his career at Credit Suisse’s Asset Management team. Before founding Planted, Christoph worked at Jacobs Holding as well as Consumer Investment Partners. Planted, with its pioneering biostructuring approach of combining protein structuring and biotech, is currently the fastest growing start-up in the alternative protein space in Europe. Chris leads the circles for Finance, HR, Brand & Marketing as well as Corporate Communications at Planted.

Pascal Bieri is one of four founders of Planted and a member of the Executive Board. Pascal grew up in Sursee and studied business administration at the University of St. Gallen, gaining an M.A. in Business Innovation. After five years with Migros Industrie in various positions, including three years in the US, he founded the ETH Foodtech Spin-off Planted in 2019 together with three co-founders. Planted is currently the fastest growing start-up in the alternative protein space in Europe. Pascal is responsible for sales and international business development.

Lukas Böni is one of four founders of Planted and a member of the Executive Board - driven by the desire to have a positive impact on the climate and animal welfare, as well as to improve the resilience of food value chains. He studied food science at ETH Zurich and the University of Melbourne and holds a master's degree in food process engineering and a PhD in food science. Lukas is an expert in food and process design with a focus on sustainable food. At Planted, he is responsible for Science and Operations.

Judith Wemmer joined Planted in early 2020 with a passion for driving innovation to develop healthy, sustainable products that reduce the footprint of the food value chain and provide consumers with moments of pleasure. She studied food science at ETH Zurich and the University of Singapore alongside two of Planted's four founders and holds a PhD in food process engineering from ETH Zurich in close industry collaboration. Judith is an expert in process engineering and clean-label product design and has filed several patent applications as part of her PhD. At Planted she is responsible for product development, regulatory and IP and represents Planted in the Swiss Association for Alternative Proteins as Association President.
