Molding FSC-certified wood, recycled paper and recycled bio-based textiles into 3D shaped shoes, bags and car parts.

The Idea in Action

Plastic is everywhere—woven into nearly 50% of our clothing and embedded in countless everyday products. While cheap and convenient, it lingers for centuries, polluting ecosystems and harming human health. Despite efforts to recycle, only 9% of plastic waste is ever reused. This widespread dependence is driven not just by plastic itself, but by the manufacturing infrastructure designed around it—systems optimized for mass-producing plastic-based goods.

Simplifyber is rethinking this model. Instead of plastic, they use bio-based, compostable materials that degrade within two years or can be recycled back into the same system. By pioneering a new approach to soft goods manufacturing, Simplifyber aims to replace plastic textiles with sustainable, high-performance alternatives, reducing waste and reshaping supply chains for a circular economy.

The Story So Far

Founded in the U.S., Simplifyber has developed a patented material and manufacturing process that eliminates traditional textile steps like spinning, weaving, and cutting. Using FSC-certified wood pulp, recycled textiles, and rapidly renewable fibers like hemp and bamboo, their process transforms cellulose slurries into 3D-molded soft goods—including shoes, bags, and automotive interiors—in a single step.

With its first commercially available shoes set to launch in 2025, Simplifyber is pioneering a scalable, plant-based alternative to conventional textiles. By merging material innovation with 3D-forming technology, the company is building a more sustainable future for fashion and beyond.
